From July 13-19, 2020, we celebrated Black Women in STEM Week hosted by STEMNoire, a first of its kind research conference and holistic wellness retreat for women of the African diaspora in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
From July 13-19, 2020, STEMNoire curated a free virtual week of storytelling, self-care, and community building for Black women in and beyond STEM. I am lucky to serve on the planning council as logistics chair and volunteer coordinator. Many of the activities used technology to recapture some aspect of the magic that would have been our inaugural research conference and wellness retreat in Puerto Rico, which was postponed due to COVID-19. We spent the week highlighting, honoring, uplifting, and celebrating the past, present, and future of Black women in STEM.
